History of Religion
In order to give the history of religion one would need more than a website. Civilization has worshipped a deity whether it be Allah, Ra, Buddha or Jesus for all of written history. Though gods have acted differently and doctrines have changed, religion has been a key-factor within every civilization. The problem with religions comes the inconsistencies between texts and how they affect the reading. Many religious wars have been caused by different interpretations of the text which caused a schism between followers. In Hitchen's book God Is Not Great he speaks about the origin of religion in chapters Seven, Eight, and Nine. He does so by introducing chapter seven with the header "Nightmare Of The Old Testament", pleasant image huh? In this chapter he delves into the subject of gruesome inconsistencies of the old Testament. He brings up the contradiction that Moses had parents stoned which violated the very commandments he brought down from god. The next Chapter speaks about the "New Testament" and what it brings to the table. This chapter expands on Jesus as a mythical being. In this chapter Hitchen's concludes that the gospels are most definitely not the literal truth. He also speaks about the questionability of Jesus's existence. In this chapter Hitchen's essentially tears apart the New Testament. He even refers to "The Passion of Christ" as being like a soap opera. Finally in the eighth chapter Hitchen's speaks about the Koran which has essentially the same story as the bible it just has different names in it.
