Importance Of Religion
The importance of religion within violent acts throughout Hithchen's book God Is Not Great. Hitchen's explores the conflict caused by Religious vew as well as Hitchen's perspective of Religion itself. Hitchen's ,an extreme Atheist, takes a view that many have not heard. Thus, he writes with almost a shameful view of religion. Which may cause some to challenge his argument, as it may seem as self-righteous.
Hitchens writes in the first chapter of his book about his argument and how he became such a strong atheist. His views were not superimposed like most religions are. Rather he recalls a day in grade school when his teacher was admiring the beauty of God's green earth. Even at the young age of nine Hitchen's did not believe that God had created earth or grass. (And this was before Hitchen's had learned about photosynthesis.)
The following chapter of Hitchen's novel is titled "Religion Kills", here we see the factual side of Hitchens writing comes in and where he goes into the pure destruction that religion has caused around the globe. In this chapter he simply focuses on the letter "B" and picks four cities which start with the letter "B." These cities being Bethlehem, Bombay, Beirut, Bagdad and Belfast. In my opinion this is one of the most important chapters of the book because it introduces the most important challenge of religion, which is conflict.
The issue and importance of violence caused by religious conflict has always been a port of religion since the first scripture was written. We see the conflicts in our everyday lives today. Not only in the cities that Christopher Hitchen's has listed. Numerous areas within our world face conflict over small differences in belief.
